The Importance of Non Scale Victories

NON SCALE VICTORIES

Have you ever have a really kickass week where you ate right, kicked ass in all your workouts (I mean PRed and everything), got more than enough sleep, and STILL ended up not losing a single pound?!

You felt crushed. I've been there, done that, circled around and done it again. It's an awful feeling, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A NON SCALE VICTORY?

Non Scale Victories are ways for you to circumvent that heartache. They are EXACTLY as they sound: goals that you set (and decimate) that have nothing to do with how much you weigh. It could be as simple as hitting your water intake for the day, or as big as running a half marathon in 3 months time. 

 

THE CHALLENGE OF THE NON SCALE VICTORY

The challenge of the NSV is to keep your goals as specific as possible. "Staying healthy" isn't going to cut it. You are going to need your goals tangible and reachable so you don't get bored or discouraged. If your goal is a little loftier (like that half marathon) set sub-goals for you to reach that build up to that badass final goal. Then obliterate it.

 

IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE ABOUT WORKING OUT, YOU KNOW

Non Scale Victories don't have to be limited to just fitness goals. They can be food goals, like hitting your calorie mark for the day. Non Scale Victories can also be eating the recommended amount of veggies (this is hard), or NOT eating candy for a week (this is also hard). NCV can be mental health oriented. For example not criticizing your body for a whole day or waking up every day of the week with positive thoughts and good intentions (I'm still working on this one). It can even be finally working up the courage to see a therapist.


Ditch the scale (for now), and start working on those Non Scale Victories. Your body, and mind will thank you!

 

FEELING STUMPED? NEED MORE INSPIRATION?

 

I've compiled a list of my favorite past (and present) goals that are great examples:

-Practice Yoga 3x a week

-Meet water intake

-Run a mile nonstop

-Get active 30 min every day for a week

- Eat the daily servings of veggies for a week

-Try a new workout

-Go to sleep no later than 10pm

-No soda for the day

-No fast food for a week

-Eat dinner before 8pm every day
